Power Systems Engineer

Job description

Power Systems Engineer

What will you do as a Power Systems Engineer?
As a Power Systems Engineer, you are responsible for designing variable drives for maritime and offshore projects to meet the functional requirements of the client.

Working on power systems projects means contributing to hybrid ship systems, such as ferries, tugboats, and firefighting vessels. Hybrid installations are also increasingly common on various workboats (e.g., crane vessels), utilizing batteries and/or capacitors to optimize energy sources.

In addition to Power Management Systems (PMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS), many other onboard systems are operated via a Distributed Control System (DCS). For all these systems, we also develop Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) that allow operators to control the ship’s systems.

Smaller projects may involve programming controls for hydraulically or electrically powered systems like winches, jacking, or skidding systems.

Your tasks include:
  • Delegating detailed design work to colleagues domestically and internationally;
  • Collaborating closely with the Project Manager and Lead Engineer on larger projects;
  • Preparing technical documentation and specifications in cooperation with the project team;
  • Depending on your interests and experience, testing and commissioning these drives on-site (domestically and internationally) is possible.

What do you bring?
  • A completed bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Technology, or a similar field;
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role or projects (mid to senior level);
  • Experience with PLC systems (preferred);
  • Knowledge of/experience with variable drives (Vacon, Siemens, ABB);
  • A VCA VOL certificate or willingness to obtain one;
  • Proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.

Additionally, you are:
  • Flexible and willing to travel several times a year domestically and internationally;
  • Disciplined and precise in your work;
  • Responsible and take initiative;
  • Communicatively skilled at various levels;
  • Able to perform well under pressure.

What do we offer you?
You will join a growing and dynamic family business with daily new opportunities and challenges. The company fosters a friendly and informal working environment where colleagues support each other. Collaboration is key, and this is reflected in the collegial atmosphere, active employee association, and Friday afternoon get-togethers to start the weekend.
Our employment conditions include:
  • A competitive salary up to €5.300
  • 25 vacation days and 13 additional leave days for full-time positions;
  • Employment under the Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Metal and Technology;
  • Enrollment in the Pension Fund for Metal and Technology;
  • Travel allowance of €0.23 per km;
  • A company laptop and mobile phone;
  • Flexible working hours and hybrid working options, with a home office allowance of €2.35 per day;
